Control Techniques Americas has just released a new 6-minute “Energy Savings” video demonstrating how its variable frequency drives (VFDs) used with centrifugal fans and pumps offer extremely good energy saving opportunities – as high as 60% in some applications (payback can be as little as 3 to 6 months in applications with long periods of low-flow operation).

The savings potential is high in these variable torque applications because centrifugal fans and pumps follow what are called the “Affinity Laws.” These laws of physics basically state that the flow is approximately proportional to speed but the power consumed is roughly proportionate to the cube of the speed. The video shows that even a slight speed reduction results in a comparatively large drop in power consumption. (An added benefit of reducing speed is that audible noise is reduced by the fifth power of the speed.)

Features of Control Techniques AC drives that are particularly useful in fan and pump applications include:

Dynamic volts-per-Hertz control for maximum energy savings.

Built-in energy metering quickly shows energy and cost savings achieved without having to add expensive external meters.

Bypass system resonant frequencies through simple drive set-up.

“Ride through” power supply dips.

Built-in independent PID control regulates system variables such as pressure based upon transducer feedback, eliminating the need for expensive external controllers.

Onboard PLC functionality eliminates the need for an external PLC.

Free- setup, commissioning, programming and diagnostic software tools.

Product Line Overview

Integra enclosures are offered in three basic product lines. They are the Premium Line, the JIC Line, and the Telecom Line. All enclosures are injection-molded, engineered thermoplastics, designed to provide the best combinations of strength, durability, design features, and aesthetics.

The Premium Line, JIC Line, and Telecom Line all share the following features:

Warp-Resistant Covers
All Integra covers are molded with a slight doming in the covers. This works to ensure that the cover remains flat at the sealing surface, eliminating a chronic problem found in other non-metallic enclosures.

Clear Covers
Each of the Integra product lines offers enclosures with crystal clear covers. Clear covers provide a superior alternative to traditional window kits, as well as provide more design flexibility and product differentiation opportunity.

EZ Hinge
Integra hinged covers are 100% non-metallic, strong and durable, and easy to remove and replace. And, all hinged covers provide a full 225 degree door swing, providing full access to the inside of the enclosure.

Unique Panel Suspension Capability
Integra has developed and patented (Patent No. 6,604,798) a unique panel suspension feature. This system allows the placement of subpanels at any height within the enclosure, as well as the stacking of panels. It also works well to support the installation of dead front panels. This system is easy to install and very sturdy.

Molded-In Mounting Bosses
All Integra enclosures feature multiple molded-in mounting bosses designed to accept #10 self tapping screws for the installation of DIN rail right to the enclosure. No more need for sub panels if all your components are DIN rail compatible.

NEMA Ratings and Underwriters Laboratory Listings
All Integra enclosures are NEMA 4X. Our Premium and JIC Lines are UL/ C-UL-50 Listed for types 2, 3, 3R, 3S, 4X, 12, 13, and Marine Use. With four cover screws, these enclosures are type 6/6P. Integra is listed as Cabinet and Cutout Boxes (E207562) and Junction and Pull Boxes (E229365).

Stainless Steel Latching
Enclosures within the “HL Series” of each line feature stainless steel locking latches that are bolted in place at the factory. This provides a level of security that can not be met with pop rivets or slide-on latches.

Modifications
Full modification services are available at Integra, including machining, custom panels and custom colors. Call us to discuss your unique requirements.

Packaging
Standard packaging is one unit per carton, packed to ensure safe delivery to your location. Or, if bulk packing or other packaging is needed, call us and we can work to meet your requirements.

Machining Capabilities

Compact servo motor for demanding applications

Unimotor HD is Control Techniques’ new high dynamic brushless AC servo motor range designed for operation with Digitax ST, Unidrive SP, Epsilon EP and MDS drives. Unimotor HD provides an exceptionally compact, low inertia solution for applications where very high torque is required during rapid acceleration and deceleration profiles. The Unimotor HD torque profile is matched to Digitax ST servo drives providing up to 300% peak overload for maximum dynamic performance.

The ultimate motor and drive combinations

Control Techniques drive and motor combinations provide an optimized system in terms of ratings, performance, cost and ease of use. Unimotor HD motors fitted with high resolution sincos or absolute encoders are pre-loaded with the motor “electronic nameplate” data during the manufacturing process. This data can be read by Control Techniques servo drives and used to automatically optimize the drive settings. This feature simplifies commissioning and maintenance, ensures consistent performance and saves time.

The KRF EMI Filter uses a combination of high frequency inductors and capacitors to reduce noise in the critical 150 kHz to 30 MHz frequency range. The inductors act as open circuits and the capacitors act as short circuits at high frequencies while allowing the lower power line frequencies to pass untouched.
